The University of Ottawa men's hockey team had a difficult weekend at the Minto Sports Complex as they hosted UQTR and Queen's.
The Patriotes visited the Gee-Gees only a week following their first matchup of the season. The Gee-Gees took home a 2-1 victory (Oct. 18) on the road, but things looked a lot different back in Ottawa.
On Friday night, the Patriotes got the best of the Gee-Gees, earning a convincing 7-0 win.
It started with a late flurry of goals in the opening period. With only three seconds left in the period, the Patriotes fired in powerplay goal before the buzzer to establish a 3-0 lead. Ottawa couldn't stop UQTR's attack, and eventually allowed four more goals.
The next afternoon, the Gee-Gees faced off against the Gaels.
A scoreless first period was followed by a back-and-forth battle in the second.
Marc-Antoine Seguin had the first goal, finding the powerplay opening only two minutes into the action. Queen's tied things up before Brad Chenier found his third of the season to make it a 2-1 game. One more, the Gaels tied things up, and the game was all even with 20 minutes left to play.
The third went in favour of Queen's. Finding a goal early on, the Gaels rode the lead, adding an empty netter to call game at the 17-minute mark.
The 4-2 loss puts the Gee-Gees at 5-3, fourth in the OUA East. The team travels to Montreal to matchup with McGill and Concordia on Nov. 1 and Nov. 2, respectively.
