RECAP: #3 Gee-Gees close regular season with win at Concordia
The U SPORTS third-ranked Gee-Gees women's rugby team closed their regular season with a 24-12 win at Concordia on Sunday in Montreal. With the win, Ottawa cemented a second place finish in the RSEQ's 'A' division with a 4-2 record.
The Stingers struck first in the match, scoring a try in the 5th minute, taking a 5-0 lead after a missed convert. The Gee-Gees we're able to respond quickly in the early goings of the match, with Tylo Borsboom capitalizing for a try in the 12th minute to even the match at 5-5.
In the 26th minute, the Gee-Gees quickly worked the ball to the wing following a scrum, finding first-year Emilie Ethier, who dove in for her first career score. After a made Claire Gallagher convert, the Gee-Gees held a 12-5 lead.
Just before the half, Ottawa extended their lead on the first of Anna Dodge's two tries on the afternoon. Following another made convert, the Gee-Gees went into the break with a 19-5 advantage.
In the 60th minute, the Stingers added their final try of the match and along with a conversion, inched closer brining the score to 19-12.
The Garnet and Grey closed out the match in the 75th minute, with Dodge's second try closing off a relentless Ottawa push deep in the Stingers' end.
With the victory, the Gee-Gees will now get a week to watch how the quarterfinals play out. They will host the highest remaining seed, while Laval will host the lowest remaining seed in the other semi-final.
The first quarterfinal sees Montreal hosting Sherbrooke, while Carleton hosts Concordia in the second.
