Second MVP Award for Provost, Gee-Gees feature four all-stars in RSEQ Indoor season
Cassandra Provost led the RSEQ Indoor soccer league in goal scoring, continuing her prolific goal-scoring pace which led her to be named the U SPORTS Player of the Year for 2022 outdoor soccer.
Provost was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2023 RSEQ Indoor season, and joined Soumaya Bouak and Maya Smith on the conference's First Team of All-Stars. Goalkeeper Juliann Lacasse was named to the Second Team of All-Stars as the Gee-Gees posted a 6-1-1 record in league play, tying for second place.
Ottawa was the highest scoring team in the conference, netting 23 total goals and eight of those were credited to Provost. The accounting student from Acton Vale, Que., appeared in six games, giving her a 1.33 goals per game average, compared to her 1.64 goals per game in the 2022 OUA outdoor campaign.
Right behind Provost's league-leading eight goals was Soumaya Bouak with four, one of three players to tie for second in scoring. Bouak also appeared in six games, and has been named an RSEQ Indoor Soccer All-Star for the second time in her career.
Defensively, the Gee-Gees allowed the second least goals, six, in the conference and Maya Smith and Juliann Lacasse were key contributors. Notably, Lacasse recorded a shutout victory against Laval, the team which ultimately finished first in the league. Smith featured in seven matches for Ottawa on the back line.
The Gee-Gees officially joined the RSEQ Indoor soccer league in 2019 and were league champions in 2020, with Katerine Delev named the Most Valuable Player.
The Gee-Gees have had a goalkeeper selected as an indoor all-star in all three seasons: Margot Shore in 2019, Hillary Damman in 2020, and now Lacasse. Provost's eight goals in a season is a Gee-Gees record for indoor play.
