The Gee-Gees women's soccer team had pair of high-octane games at Matt Anthony Field, earning clean sheet wins against Carleton and RMC in the wind and rain.
In a 3-0 win over their crosstown rivals on Saturday, Nibo Dlamini was in control of the Gee-Gees offence. Involved in all three goals scored, Dlamini got the Gee-Gees on the board in the 8th minute by tapping a rebound over the Raven's keeper.
Moments later, Cassandra Provost scored her first of the weekend by heading in a corner kick from Dlamini to extend the Ottawa lead. Carleton created some chaos in front of the Gee-Gees goal off of free kicks, forcing goalkeepers Cassidy Joslin and Juliann Lacasse (who split time for Ottawa) to make 6 saves throughout the game.
"It was really windy against us in the first half, and that allowed Carleton to get some good opportunities in our end," said Gee-Gees head coach, Steve Johnson.
Dlamini connected with Provost for the final goal of the game, sealing the first win of the weekend for the Gee-Gees.
On Sunday, Ottawa was faced with similar weather conditions, but it didn't at all deter the Gee-Gees as they took an 8-0 win over RMC.
Élianne Gervais got the scoring started less than a minute into play, firing the ball into the top left corner of the net. Provost also found the back of the net in the opening 45 minutes, and the Gee-Gees went into halftime with a 2-0 lead.
The second half welcomed plenty of Ottawa goals. Provost finished with another hat trick (47', 65'), while Jenna Matsukubo (58') and Sabrina Mangiaracina (81') each added to the score while the other two goals were counted as RMC own goals.
After a five-goal weekend, Provost officially leads the OUA with 16 goals, quickly approaching the Gee-Gees record she set in 2022 with 18 regular season goals.
With four games left on the schedule, Ottawa will play their final regular season weekend at home when they welcome TMU and Ontario Tech on Oct. 14-15 before heading out for a road trip to Nipissing and Laurentian on Oct. 21-22.
The Gee-Gees will take on TMU on Saturday and Ontario Tech on Sunday at Matt Anthony Field, both matched kickoff at 1 p.m. and tickets are available at https://teams.geegees.ca/tickets.
