NEWS: RSEQ women’s volleyball schedule released, Gee-Gees open on the road

The Gee-Gees women's volleyball team will enjoy some home cooking throughout the month of November.

The RSEQ released the 2022-23 women's volleyball schedule in early juin. It sees the Gee-Gees play an 18-game circuit against Quebec competition, starting on Oct. 18 on the road. 

Ottawa will travel to Montreal to face the UQAM Citadins for a Friday evening affair to open the season. In an odd quirk in the schedule, the Gee-Gees next match is a full two weeks later, meaning the team will have plenty of opportunity to rest before launching into November, which sees them play six games.

Following a Friday evening game at Laval, Ottawa returns to the Nation's capital for the home opener against UQTR. The last time the Patriotes visited Montpetit Hall was a great day for the Gee-Gees, as they defeated the Pats 3-1 on Nov. 21, 2021.

With the addition of the Patriotes for the 2021-22 season, the RSEQ trimmed the women's volleyball schedule to 18 games, down from the usual 20-game campaign. The conference wasn't able to play all 18 games last year due to COVID-19. 

The Gee-Gees will play a balanced schedule, facing each of their Quebec conference opponents three times. Four of Ottawa's six November matches are home dates, including a three-game stretch early in the month.   

Prior to the start of the regular season, the team will host its traditional Pre-Season Classic tournament from Sept. 29 to Oct. 2. The tournament will coincide with the program's Hall of Fame induction celebration on the evening of Oct. 1. 

The playoffs will get underway on Feb. 24, with the top four teams qualifying for the postseason. The conference championship begins Mar. 3.

With McGill winning their quarterfinal match at the 2021 U SPORTS National Championship, the RSEQ will have two berths to the 2022 Nationals, making the first round of the playoffs all the more crucial.

The 2022 U SPORTS Women's Volleyball National Championship will be hosted by the University of British Columbia from Mar. 17-19 in Vancouver.
