Miles Gorrell (born October 16, 1955 in Edmonton, Alberta) started his football career at Henry Wise Wood Senior High School in Calgary. Playing from 1975 to 1977, he was thus a member of the 1975 National Championship Gee-Gees football team. Miles culminated his outstanding career at the University of Ottawa by being named a CIAU All-Canadian in 1976. In 1977, Miles was awarded both the Outstanding Lineman Award and team MVP.
Later on, Miles enjoyed a stellar 19 season career playing in the CFL from 1978 to 1996 for the Calgary Stampeders (1978-1982), Ottawa Rough Riders (1982), Montreal Concordes (1982-1985), Hamilton Tiger-Cats (1985-1991, 1996) and Winnipeg Blue Bombers (1992-1995). This is the longest playing career by a “non-kicker” in CFL history. He is ranked fourth in league history in games played (321 games). He won one Grey Cup with Hamilton and played in two more with Winnipeg. He was a five-time CFL Eastern Division All-Star and a two-time CFL Outstanding Lineman finalist.
From 2005-2010, Gorrell served as a Player Personnel Assistant & Director of Canadian Scouting with the Toronto Argonauts. Gorrell was inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 2013. The Gee-Gees honored his historic career by giving his name to a trophy, the Miles Gorrell Award for Best Lineman.
