Who we are

Following the conclusion of the 2020 season, the Gee-Gees named uOttawa alumni Roch Seguin the head coach for the 2021 season, making him 4th head coach in the program’s history.

Coach Seguin attended Norwalk CTC (Connecticut, US) and was a member of the JUCO World Series Champion baseball team in 1998.

Since 1999, Roch gained experience as a coach at the Midget AAA level in Gatineau, offering private instruction to local youth and also in the Sports Études baseball program in the Outaouais Region. After 3 successful years at the Midget AAA level, he was chosen to coach Team Quebec at the 18U National Championship. In 2014 he was the head coach of the Hull-Volant Junior Élite Baseball program in the U22 LBJEQ.

Roch currently is the president of the Capital City Reds as well as the head coach of the U22 summer collegiate team. Roch has led the Reds to the NABF College World Series 4 years and counting. Nine of his former players have gone on to play pro baseball (Pecos – CanAm – Frontier) and over 34 of them have gone on to play at various colleges south of the Border.

What we do

In 2019, the program transitioned from competing against East Coast and Quebec teams in the CCBA to the OUA circuit, playing against clubs from all across Ontario. We are proud to represent the University of Ottawa while competing at the OUA national championships hosted in Ajax at season’s end.

The team plays a 16-game regular-season schedule beginning in September, followed by the OUA national championships held in October.

The Gee-Gees baseball program has the privilege of playing their home games in the OUA’s largest venue, 10,000-seat RCGT Stadium.

Our History

In 1995, a group of ball players from the University of Ottawa decided to come together and form a baseball team. The team competed against teams from Quebec and cross-town rivals Carleton, and the program’s foundations of grit, grind and growth were established. Following the Gee-Gees inaugural season, team administrative manager Kevin Bullock approached local baseball coach Larry Belanger to help move the team forward. Larry recruited local coach Terry Hierlihy, and the seeds of the current baseball program were sown. Upon Larry’s retirement in 2013, professional European baseball player Matti Emery took the helm as the new head coach of Gee-Gees baseball. The program enjoyed many years of success and growth under the tutelage of Larry and Matti, but going into the 2017 season, the program decided to explore a new avenue for an exciting future.

In 2017, the team appointed former Gee-Gee Andrew Cockburn as Head Coach. Andrew’s passion and mind for the game impacted many players on the team, leading to player growth and team success. In 2019, Andrew led the team into the OUA and played a critical part in the program's overall success. Andrew’s guidance and compassion affected every student that played under him, and his impact spread outside of the baseball field into the everyday lives of all the players.

How to become a Gee-Gee

The Gee-Gees baseball team is always looking for new talent around the diamond. As a member of the OUA, the Gee-Gees participate in player recruitment in the off season while also encouraging all students of the University of Ottawa to participate in open tryouts.
