OFF THE ICE

In addition to serving as the men’s hockey captain from 2020-22, Mongo was a leader in the Gee-Gees community as a founding member and External Communications Officer of the Black Student-Athletes Advocacy Council…Founded and ran the Completing the Shift Hockey Camp in June 2022, a camp geared towards young racialized, Indigenous and/or underserved hockey players in the National Capital Region…As an executive committee member of BSAAC, he was honoured with a True Sport Award for the 2021-22 season.

THIRD YEAR (2021-22)

Named the team MVP while playing in all 18 regular season games, leading the team with 14 points (four goals, 10 assists)…Also led the team in assists while serving as captain…Scored the game winning goal against Concordia Mar. 2…Dressed for the team’s playoff game against Nipissing.

SEASON NOT PLAYED (2020-21)

Season cancelled due to COVID-19 pandemic…Did not impact eligibility…Named team captain Nov. 6…Served as External Communications Officer with the Black Student-Athletes Advocacy Council.

SECOND YEAR (2019-20)

Played in 27 games, scoring eight goals with 10 assists…Notched first multi-goal game while adding an assist on Jan. 8 at RMC…Appeared in all nine playoff games, scoring three goals with one assist.

FIRST YEAR (2018-19)

Named to the OUA East All-Rookie Team while playing in 27 games, scoring eight goals with 12 assists…Led Gee-Gees rookies in goals, assists and points…Made first career conference appearance Oct. 11 at Carleton…Scored first career goal in a 5-1 win over McGill on Oct. 14…Had a three-point game Feb. 2 versus Ontario Tech (all assists)…Appeared in one playoff game.

BEFORE THE GEE-GEES

Spent parts of five seasons in the QMJHL with Blainville-Boisbriand (2013-17) and Drummondville (2017-18)…Served as assistant captain with Blainville-Boisbriand during the 2016-17 season and with Drummondville in 2017-18…Had 121 points (52 goals, 69 assists) in 234 career regular season games, plus 31 points in 61 playoff contests…Junior teammate with fellow Gee-Gee Anthony Poulin and current NHL players Pierre-Luc Dubois, Sam Montembeault and Joe Veleno.
