CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW: Swim teams eyes the podium at U SPORTS Championship
The Gee-Gees swim team will descend on La Veille Capitale for the 2022 U SPORTS National Championship.
The Laval Rouge & Or are set to host the championship at PEPS in Quebec City, QC. The meet starts on Thursday, Mar. 24 and runs through Mar. 26. A complete meet schedule can be found HERE, and streaming information can be found HERE.
Ottawa is coming off a strong RSEQ Championship, which was hosted at the Montpetit Hall Aquatics Centre. The Gee-Gees won a school-record 38 medals while finishing second to McGill in the men's, women's and combined team competitions.
The Gee-Gees women's team is headlined by Adelle Yamashita-Ball (one gold, two silver, one bronze at RSEQ Championship) and Lauren Shearer (one gold, one silver, three bronze). Shearer's bronze medal in the 100m breaststroke at the 2020 U SPORTS National Championship was the first medal for a Gee-Gees women's swimmer since 2014.
The men's side features a number of podium threats, including Nathan Schiffmann, Alexandre Perreault and Hugo Lemesle. Perreault and Lemesle each took home five medals at the RSEQ Championships, while Schiffmann turned heads with a dominant showing in the 1500m free.
Gee-Gees swimmers have won a total of 46 medals at U SPORTS National Championships, including 13 gold. The 2020 edition saw Ottawa win seven individual medals and a bronze in the men's 4x200m freestyle relay.
The championship will be broadcast live on CBC Gem.
