PREVIEW: Women’s hockey hosts Gaiters in Mélisa Kingsley Memorial Game

Saturday will be the annual Mélisa Kingsley Memorial Game. A strong student and passionate hockey player from Sudbury, Ont., Mélisa was recruited to the Gee-Gees in 2016. A forward with a scoring touch, great hands, and a strong shot, Kingsley suited up for the Garnet and Grey in the 2017-18 season. At that time, she was already undergoing treatment for synovial sarcoma, a rare form of cancer. She passed away at age 20 in October 2018.

A scholarship was established in 2020 at the University of Ottawa to celebrate Mélisa and all of the joy that she brought to the ice and to her friends and family. Funds collected by the Gee-Gees on Saturday will go directly to the scholarship. For more information and to donate, CLICK HERE.

• Ottawa dropped both their games last weekend, losing 2-1 to Carleton and 2-0 to the second-ranked Concordia Stingers.
• Angélique Proulx made her return to the ice Sunday after missing the past three weeks. Proulx led the team with seven assists in 2021-22.
• It is a true log jam in the RSEQ through the first third of the season. Four teams are within two points of first place, while fifth place Carleton are within striking distance as well.

• In perhaps the most remarkable stat this hockey season, every single one of Bishop's nine regular season games has been decided by one goal.
• The Gaiters are off to a tremendous start, considering their program is in its second year of existence. They had three wins during the 2021-22 regular season. This year they earned their third win in the fifth game of the season.
• Goaltending was an issue for Bishop's last season, but Aglaé René de Cotret boasts a 2.17 goals against average and a .927 save percentage.

MONTREAL GAME NOTES

• Montreal has lost in regulation to only one team this year…the Ottawa Gee-Gees.
• The Carabins are cycling their three netminders. Racine, Desroches and Geneviève Lamoureux have all earned wins this season.
• Audrey-Anne Veillette has cooled off since starting the season with eight goals in five games. The forward is goalless in her last four showings.
