For the first time since 2019-20, the Alerts Cup will be played in Ottawa.
The University of Ottawa and Carleton University will renew hostilities at TD Place Arena for the sixth ever Alerts Cup on Sunday, Jan. 22. Puck drop is at 7:30 p.m., immediately following the men's teams doing battle at 4:00 p.m.
One ticket gains fans entrance into both games, and they're on sale at Ticketmaster.
Due to COVID-19, this is the first time the Cup has been contested since 2019. This will also serve as the first edition since 2005 to be held at the 9,500-seat TD Place Arena, the current home of the Ottawa 67s of the Ontario Hockey League and one-time home of the Ottawa Senators.
Ottawa holds the historical edge in the game, having won four of the previous five meetings. Their last win, which came in 2019, was a 4-1 decision at the Carleton University Ice House. A complete history of the Alerts Cup can be found HERE.
The Gee-Gees and Ravens have met three times already this season, with Ottawa taking two of the confrontations. Across all sports during the 2022-23 season, Gee-Gees teams hold a 10-1 record against Carleton opposition.
Abygail Moloughney has been pacing the Gee-Gees in scoring this season. The fifth-year transfer from Syracuse currently has 12 goals and 19 points, both good for second in the conference. Carleton is led offensively by Nicole Hunter (seven points in 15 games) and Cecilia Lopez (six points in nine games).
The Alerts Cup is part of the annual rivalry series between the Gee-Gees and Ravens. The series includes the football Panda Game (Ottawa won 37-7), the men's hockey Colonel By Classic (also taking place on Jan. 22) and the basketball Capital Hoops Classic (Friday, Feb. 3).
The game will be streamed on the Ravens YouTube channel.
Before their matchup with the Ravens, Ottawa will set their sights on McConnell Arena and the McGill Martlets on Friday, Jan. 20. The Gee-Gees have beaten the Martlets thrice already this season by a combined score of 13-5. That game will be streamed on the McGill Yare TV channel.
Tickets for the Alerts Cup can be purchased at Ticketmaster. Tickets for all other Gee-Gees home events are on sale at tickets.geegees.ca.
