NEWS: RSEQ releases women’s rugby schedule, Gee-Gees set for Sept. 4 season opener
The Gee-Gees women's rugby team are setting their sights on a seventh consecutive medal at the U SPORTS National Championship in 2022.
The 2022 RSEQ regular season gets going Sunday, Sept. 4 with the Gee-Gees facing the Concordia Stingers in Montreal.
After splitting the conference into a Section A and Section B for each of the last two seasons, the Quebec conference will be comprised of a single division in 2022. Ottawa is playing a six-game regular season schedule, facing each RSEQ opponent once with the exception of the Sherbrooke Vert & Or.
Following their season opener on Sept. 4, the Gee-Gees will play their Home Opener on Saturday, Sept. 10. The Montreal Carabins will be in the nation's capital for a match that starts at 1:00 p.m. at Matt Anthony Field. The Gee-Gees defeated the Carabins in the RSEQ semifinal in 2021, ending Montreal's season.
The 2022 campaign will see Ottawa face their crosstown rivals from Carleton for the first time since 2019. The rivalry match is set to take place under the lights at Matt Anthony Field, getting started at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 30.
A pivotal matchup awaits the Gee-Gees in their regular season finale. Laval will host Ottawa on Saturday, Oct. 8 at Stade TELUS-UL in Quebec City. The two schools have won each of the last seven conference championships.
The RSEQ playoffs begin Oct. 15, with the final scheduled for Oct. 29. The 2022 U SPORTS National Championship runs from Nov. 2 through Nov. 6 at the University of Victoria.
Ottawa posted a 4-2 regular season record in 2021, falling to Laval in the RSEQ Championship game. The Gee-Gees rallied at the U SPORTS National Championship, winning the silver medal – their sixth straight U SPORTS medal and the ninth medal in the past six seasons for the conference.
