RECAP: #4 Women’s rugby dominates McGill in Montreal
Five Gee-Gees earned their first career points in Garnet and Grey as the fourth-ranked women's rugby team defeated the McGill Martlets 82-0 at Percival-Molson Memorial Stadium in Montreal Saturday afternoon.
Ottawa wasted no time getting the scoring started against the Martlets, who have yet to score a point this season. Aurora Bowie found paydirt inside the first two minutes, followed closely by Meredith Sirrs and Taelor Hendrick.
A series of Gee-Gees then got their first tries in regular season action, with Caleigh McMillan, Jamie Lee Walker and Ella Blyth capping off the first half scoring. Ottawa lead 41-0 at the break.
The second half was more of the same. Reigning RSEQ First Team All-Star Anna Dodge, playing in her first game of the season, got a pair of tries while Mercedes Cole scored three times. The final half was punctuated by Anjali Jagannathan making her way into the try zone for her first career score.
Hendrick handled the kicking for Ottawa on the day, converting six tries and accounting for 17 total points.
By scoring four tries or more, Ottawa earns a bonus point and keeps pace with Laval and Carleton, who are also undefeated.
Ottawa (3-0) will enjoy a two-game homestand that gets underway on Saturday, Sept. 24 against the Bishop's Gaiters (1-2) at 1:00 p.m., before Carleton (3-0) visits Matt Anthony Field on Friday, Sept. 30. Tickets for the home games are on sale at tickets.geegees.ca.
Next up for McGill is Concordia (1-2) on Sept. 25.
