Bio

Bob Butler was inducted into the Hall of Fame in the builder category for his contribution to the development of the program and the sport. He coached both uOttawa men’s and women’s basketball teams for over 10 years in the 70’s, 90’s and 2000’s, and also played a key role in helping establish the women’s program.  In addition to his involvement with the Gee-Gees, Bob also helped the growth of basketball culture in the Ottawa region. He helped put in place the Ottawa Rookies basketball club during the 1970s and 1980s, which elevated women's basketball in Ottawa and produced senior national team players. His achievements also include 30 years of coaching in the high school community, making him one the longest serving coaches in the region. Bob’s dedication to basketball makes him a pillar in the basketball community.

After serving as assistant coach for the Gee-Gees' inaugural season in the OWIAA in 1971-72, Butler was the Gee-Gees women's basketball head coach in 1972-73, guiding the team to a 7-3 league record and a playoff finish as OWIAA East semi-finalists.  He returned to the uOttawa sidelines for the 2006-07 and 2007-08 women’s basketball seasons as an assistant coach.
