Women’s golf takes OUA bronze
The Gee-Gees women's golf team turned in a brilliant performance at the OUA Golf Championships Friday, taking the team bronze medal at Cherry Downs Golf Club in Pickering, Ont.
The team consisting of Mackenzie Deveau, Rachel Jackson, Madeline MacMillan and Ashley Thompson combined for a score of 43 over par on the day, good for a third-place showing.
Ottawa finished 18 strokes behind the gold medallists from Western University and seven strokes behind the second-place Windsor Lancers.
The Gee-Gees were led by a strong showing from Rachel Jackson. Jackson was in contention for the individual crown for large stretches of the day, hovering around even par on an unforgiving course. She eventually finished in solo fourth by carding an 8 over par 80 during the one-day tourney.
The additional Ottawa scores that counted toward the team total were Deveau's 88 and Thompson's 91. MacMillan's total of 103 did not impact to team score.
With the strong showing, uOttawa qualifies for the 2022 Canadian University/College Championship, set to take place from May 31 – June 3. A location has yet to be announced by Golf Canada.
The Gee-Gees men's team also competed at the OUA Championship, finishing in ninth place. Jared Coyle and Nick Workun carded identical scores of 4 over par 75, ending up in a tie for 14th position.
