Gee-Gees announce 311 Academic Award recipients from 2021-22 season
The University of Ottawa is proud to announce that 311 Gee-Gees student-athletes achieved an annual grade point average of 8.0 or higher during the 2021-22 academic year. Of those, 100 are U SPORTS Academic All-Canadians who were on the official varsity team rosters.
Twelve student-athletes achieved a perfect 10.0 annual GPA, representing eleven different teams and six different faculties.
The U SPORTS Academic All-Canadians have been celebrated officially since 1988 and the award is a nationally recognized distinction. The RSEQ and OUA conferences and uOttawa have also created Academic Merit programs to recognize those who compete at the conference or non-conference level on Varsity Club or Competitive Sport Club teams.
"The academic success of Gee-Gees student-athletes is very important to note and to celebrate," says Sue Hylland, Director of Recreation and Varsity Sports at uOttawa. "This is an accomplished and impressive group who represent our University across a wide range of sports and academic disciplines. We are very grateful for the support of our Deans and Faculties and recognize their vital role in student-athlete success."
The group of 311 includes students from all ten faculties at uOttawa. There are 50 recipients in graduate studies, including nine in medical school. An awards event will be hosted on November 23 for the recipients.
A complete list of 2021-2022 U SPORTS Academic All-Canadians is available here. Portia Cooper, a human kinetics student on the women's volleyball team, and Emma Dobson-Takoff, a software engineering student on the women's track and field team, were the two varsity student-athletes to attain the 10.0 AGPA.
The complete list of Academic Merit Award Winners from Varsity Club and Competitive Sport Club teams is below, organized by team. Those with a 10.0 AGPA are indicated with their field of study in brackets.
