NEWS: Gee-Gees bid Roger Archambault farewell in return to INS Québec
University of Ottawa Recreation and Varsity Sports announced on Thursday that Roger Archambault will move on from his post as Associate Athletic Director to return to the Institut national du sport du Québec (INS Québec) as Vice President, Performance Services.
"I wish nothing but success for the Gee-Gees and to see our programs continue to build on what we have built and accomplished," said Archambault. "I will remain a fan for life and people will continue to see me frequently at all of our venues as I take on my role as super fan moving forward. I will mostly miss the people whom I have had the privilege to work with in building a successful era for our programs."
With the move, Archambault completes his second tenure at the University, having first served as Assistant Director of High Performance from December 2015 until June 2019, before spending 20 months at INS Québec as Vice-President, Performance Services.
Since returning to the University in Early 2021, Archambault has built upon the success of his first tenure. Throughout his time with the Gee-Gees, Archambault oversaw the most successful period of high-performance sport in school history. This has included U SPORTS National Championship wins in women's rugby (2017) and women's soccer (2018), seven conference titles, 10 team national medals, 31 individual national medals, and numerous accolades for coaches serving under his direction.
Archambault has also steered uOttawa through the development and implementation of a new sport model, as well as its review, including a revamp of the varsity structure, the growth of an Integrated Support Team, and renewals of goal setting and standards for the High Performance sector.
"We will miss Roger greatly but know he is not far away. He will forever be part of our Gee-Gees family," said Sue Hylland, Senior Director of Recreation and Varsity Sports. "I have personally thoroughly enjoyed working alongside him over these past 7 years and truly appreciate our friendship, his work ethic, dedication, knowledge, and expertise of the high performance sport world, which he has successfully implemented in the university system at uOttawa."
The entirety of Recreation and Varsity Sports would like to thank Roger for his dedication and support and wish him nothing but the best in his new opportunity with INS Québec.
Archambault will officially complete his functions on May 12. In the transition, Danika Smith, Supervisor of Varsity Sports, will fill the role effective immediately in an acting capacity.
