The rivalry is renewed this Saturday, as the Ottawa Gee-Gees and the Carleton Ravens are set to meet in the 53rd annual Panda Game. Kickoff is scheduled for noon in front of a sellout crowd of over 24,000 at TD Place Stadium.
The Gee-Gees enter having taken Pedro the Panda home for three consecutive seasons. A dramatic, 45-yard field goal by Campbell Fair in the final minute sealed a 19-17 victory for Ottawa in 2021. The Garnet and Grey hold an all-time record of 35-17 in the big game, which dates back to 1955.
OTTAWA GAME NOTES
- Major stat leaders
- Passing yards: Ben Maracle – 187.4 per game
- Rushing yards: J-P Cimankida – 106.2 per game
- Receiving yards: Daniel Oladejo – 54.0 per game
- Tackles: James Peter – 7.7 per game
- Ottawa rides into Panda on a three-game winning streak. The Gee-Gees grinded out a 21-18 road win at Wilfrid Laurier last week, with Campbell Fair drilling a 55-yard game-winning field goal on the final play.
- Fair's boot was the longest in Gee-Gees history (breaking a record previously held by Lewis Ward), tied for the longest in OUA history and is tied for the third longest in U SPORTS history. The fourth-year kicker earned U SPORTS Special Teams Player of the Week honours for the play.
- J-P Cimankinda put the team on his back against Laurier, leading the Gee-Gees in rushing and receiving yards. The Ottawa product now sits second in the country in rushing yards.
- The Gee-Gees will enjoy a well-earned bye week following Panda.
CARLETON GAME NOTES
- Major stat leaders
- Passing yards: Tanner DeJong – 254.8 per game
- Rushing yards: Josh Ferguson – 50.4 per game
- Receiving yards: Frederick Hachey – 73.4 per game
- Tackles: Zendrew Audain – 24.0 per game
- Carleton is coming off a commanding 24-7 home win over a pesky Windsor Lancers team. The Ravens won the game despite managing just 299 total yards of offence.
- Quarterback Tanner DeJong missed last year's Panda Game due to injury. He ranks second in the nation in total passing yards this season.
- This will be the first Panda Game since 2015 that does not feature long-time Ravens running back Nathan Carter. Carter graduated following the 2021 season.
Tickets for the game are sold out, but there are plenty of broadcasting options available. The game will be streamed in English on CBC Sports platforms and OUA.tv, and broadcasted on TSN 1200 radio in Ottawa. RogersTV Channel 23 will be carrying the game in French.
