Pépin, Stajic, Guemeta recognized by OUA
Three Gee-Gees were recognized on Thursday as Ontario University Athletics released its All-Stars and Award Winners for 2022-2023. Guillaume Pépin and Dragan Stajic were selected as All-Stars and Jacques-Mélaine Guemeta was named to the conference All-Rookie team.
Guillaume Pépin was named to the OUA First Team of all-stars for the second straight season after leading the Gee-Gees in scoring with 15.9 points per game. Pépin set a career high with a three-point shooting percentage of 38.3 and slightly bettered his previous career high in scoring, 15.8 points per game, from 2021-22. The senior forward from Montreal scored 26 points or more three times in the regular season. An all-around presence, Pépin added 5.2 rebounds per game and 1.8 assists per game in 30.7 minutes per game.
Dragan Stajic earns the first OUA accolade of his three-year Gee-Gees career, earning a spot on the OUA Third Team of all-stars. Ottawa's starting point guard, he ranked third in OUA with 6.3 assists per game and was first in OUA East and second overall with 2.6 steals per game. At the national level, he was fourth in assists per game and tied for third in steals. Leading the Gee-Gees in minutes played with an average of 31.3 per game he recorded 9.0 points per game, including a twenty-point performance at Brock. Stajic, a marketing student from Waterloo, Ont., added 7.0 rebounds per game to establish a career best.
Jacques-Mélaine Guemeta was named to the OUA All-Rookie Team after making an impact off the bench for Ottawa with his overall game. He recorded 3.7 rebounds, 1.0 steals, and 7.2 points per game and shot 44.5 per cent from the field. His 85.7 per cent shooting from the free throw line tied for the team lead, and he ranked third from three-point land with a 34.6 percentage. He recorded double-digit scoring in six games and set his career high with 26 points against Algoma. Guemeta is a civil engineering student from Douala, Cameroon.
