An Ottawa product, Hand enjoyed a well-travelled playing career. Following parts of four seasons with Baie-Comeau of the QMJHL (2002-06), Hand spent two seasons in the LNAH with Saint Hyacinthe before continuing his professional career in the United States.

Over the course of six seasons from 2008 through 2015, Hand played in three leagues (the CHL, ECHL and SPHL) with ten different franchises. His career took him to Laredo, Texas; Rapid City, S.D.; West Valley City, Utah; Reading, Pa.; Wichita, Kan. (two stints); Huntsville, Ala.; Allen, Texas; North Richland Hills, Texas; Fayetteville, S.C.; and Elmira, N.Y. Sandwiched between was the 2012-13 season with the Hull Stingrays of the EIHL in England.

Hand returned to Canada to close out his playing career in the LNAH, winning a league championship with Thetford Mines before retiring in 2017.
