RECAP: Men’s rugby beats undefeated ÉTS Piranhas on the road
The Gee-Gees men's rugby team defeated the École de technologie supérieure Piranhas by a score of 41-22 on the road on Saturday evening.
Six different Gee-Gees scored in the contest including Zak Campbell putting up eleven points (four conversions and a penalty).
"It was comfortably the best game we have played in terms of execution and lack of mistakes. It is the game that we have been building towards, and we knocked it out of the park. We have embraced the role of the villain; they are the best team in the league and right from the beginning we took it to them," said Gee-Gees head coach Andrew Armstrong.
The Gee-Gees continue to set themselves as a dominant force in the RSEQ conference, as they are on a three-game winning streak. Ottawa came out strong in the first half taking the lead 27-10.
As the second half started, the Gee-Gees did not slow down their pace and kept the pressure on their opponents. The Piranhas tried to mount a comeback but to no avail.
The scoring was shared by six Gee-Gees who played a very collective game. Zak Campbell handled the kicking once again for Ottawa, and he now leads the team with 36 total points.
The Gee-Gees are now in second place in the conference, but still have some work to do to solidify their spot in the playoffs.
"I told the guys after the Bishop's game, 'I hope now you believe in yourselves, we can do anything,'" said Armstrong. "We can do anything with any amount of time or no amount of time. We've got a bit of a weaker team coming up next and then a huge game against Concordia."
Two road games await the Gee-Gees – at Sherbrooke on Oct. 16 and at Concordia on Oct. 22.
Sherbrooke currently sits in last place in the conference with a record of 0-5. They have scored just three tries over the course of the season and have been shut out twice. Their closest contest this year was a 52-7 loss to Montreal on Sept. 24.
