RECAP: Women’s basketball ends season in OUA quarters
The Waterloo Warriors defeated the Gee-Gees women's basketball team 66-56 Saturday evening at PAC Fitness Centre in the OUA quarterfinals.
The loss ends the Gee-Gees 2022-23 season.
Waterloo led the game more or less wire-to-wire. A big third quarter, in which the Warriors outscored the Gee-Gees 16-9, was the difference maker. Ottawa put up 18 points in the fourth quarter, but it came in a losing cause.
Neither team truly outshone the other in any offensive statistical category, but Waterloo dominated in the rebound department. The home squad grabbed 49 boards to the visitors' 28.
Three Gee-Gees were in double figures: Oksana Gouchie-Provencher (12 points, a rebound shy of a double-double), Natsuki Szczokin (11) and Savannah Provo (11 off the bench).
Vanessa Hughes and Kaitlyn Overeem dominated offensively for the Warriors, scoring 27 and 21 points, respectively.
Waterloo advances to face the top-seeded Queen's Gaels in the OUA semis with a spot in the U SPORTS National Championship on the line.
