PLAYOFF PREVIEW: Gee-Gees head to the Ravens Nest for OUA Semifinal
Following a victory over the Waterloo Warriors, the Gee-Gees women's basketball team have advanced to the OUA Semifinal round. The Gee-Gees are set to meet their crosstown rivals at the Ravens Nest for their biggest game of the year.
During the regular season, the Gee-Gees split games with the Carleton Ravens, earning a 74-56 win in Montpetit Hall. The teams have yet to meet on Carleton turf as they most recently played at TD Place in the Capital Hoops Classic. The Ravens came away with a 78-72 win in the Rivalry Series matchup.
The Gee-Gees will visit the Ravens Nest for the first time in the 2023-24 season on Wednesday night with tip-off scheduled for 6 p.m. The winner will advance to the OUA Final, the Critelli Cup while the loser will see their season end.
Eyes will be on the point guard matchup. For the Gee-Gees, Natsuki Szczokin is coming off a game high 21 points against the Warriors and has consistently played her best against the Ravens. In the Capital Hoops Classic, Szczokin put up 23 points, five assists and three steals. Szczokin finished the regular season averaging 14.3 points, 4.6 assists and 3.2 rebounds per game.
Kali Pocrnic continues to be a remarkable force for the Ravens, earning her career high 40 points in the OUA quarterfinal against McMaster over the weekend. Over the regular season, Pocrnic averaged 15.1 points, 3.5 assists, and 2.3 rebounds per game.
Both teams will be fighting to keep their seasons alive, and it's sure to be a battle from start to finish.
