McNaughton accepted the role of Gee-Gees women' rugby head coach in May 2023, having served as an assistant coach on the Canadian 15s Senior Women’s team since 2017, helping shape some of the world’s top rugby talent. Most recently, McNaughton assisted Canada to a fourth-place finish at the Rugby World Cup in November 2022.

Serving as Ottawa’s contact and forwards coach from 2013-17, McNaughton was a key contributor to a period highlighted by a U SPORTS National Championship in 2017, U SPORTS silver and bronze medals in 2016 and 2015, and four consecutive RSEQ title wins.

Following his time with the Gee-Gees, McNaughton served as the Breakdown/Forward Coach of the Queen’s Gaels varsity men’s rugby program, winning OUA Championships in 2018 and 2019, as well as silver (2018) and bronze (2019) at the Canadian University Men’s Rugby Championship.

In 2021, McNaughton gained experience in the professional rugby world as the Breakdown/Scrum Coach of the Exeter Chiefs Women’s 15s squad in the United Kingdom, winning the League Cup and earning a silver medal finish in the Premiership.

McNaughton has also found significant success coaching with the Canadian U20 women’s team, Quebec’s senior women’s provincial team, and Algonquin College.

From Arnprior, Scotland, McNaughton retired from a successful career outside of rugby as a Chartered Civil Engineer, CEO, and project management professional in Ottawa for over 20 years.
