Provost as Player of the Year leads five Gee-Gees selected as OUA All-Stars
Cassandra Provost was named the OUA East Player of the Year for 2022, recognizing her record-breaking play up front for the Garnet and Grey. Provost's 18 goals and 21 points in the regular season topped the nation and set new team benchmarks.
The second-year Gee-Gee was one of five Ottawa players named to the conference all-star squad this year as the team recorded a 9-1-2 regular season record and ranked second in the OUA East standings.
Joining Provost on the OUA All-Star Teams are defenders Adriane Devlin (first team) and Kayla Kyle (second team), and midfielders Katerine Delev (first team) and Soumaya Bouak (second team).
The 2021 OUA East Rookie of the Year, Provost broke through early this season by scoring two goals in each of the team's first two games. Ultimately, she was held off the scoresheet only twice in her 11 matches played and finished the regular season with a remarkable five-goal performance against Laurentian.
Provost, an accounting student from Acton Vale, Que., set Gee-Gees team records for goals scored in a regular season (18), points scored in a regular season (21), goals per game in a regular season (1.64), and goals scored in a single match (5).
Devlin and Delev are repeat OUA All-Stars, with Devlin earning the honour for the second time and Delev now a three-time OUA All-Star. Kayla Kyle found success in the OUA East after three seasons as a standout in the RSEQ conference; 2022 marks her fourth season being recognized at the conference level.
Soumaya Bouak, of Newmarket, Ont., showed her ability to be an excellent offensive complement to Provost for Ottawa and earns her first OUA All-Star recognition. The third-year Gee-Gee recorded a career high of eight points this season, with two goals and six assists.
The awards were announced Wednesday ahead of the OUA semifinals, with Ottawa taking on Western at 7 p.m. for a spot in the OUA Championship match.
