NEWS: OUA releases women’s soccer schedule, Gee-Gees open at home Sept. 2
The Gee-Gees women's soccer team will commence their defence of the OUA Championship at home when they face the Trent Excalibur at Matt Anthony Field on Saturday, Sept. 2.
The OUA released the 2023 women's soccer schedule Wednesday. It sees Ottawa play a 12-game circuit against OUA East opposition, nearly the exact same opposition they faced en route to a conference title in 2022.
Ottawa's season commences with a matinee affair against Trent – a team that hasn't travelled to the friendly confines of Matt Anthony Field since the 2019 season. The match is slated to kickoff at 1:00 p.m.
It will be a light start to the season for the Gee-Gees, as following a weekend road swing in Toronto, Ottawa enjoys a bye week, meaning they'll have played three games across three weeks to begin the campaign.
They'll have to be well-rested, as the Gee-Gees will receive the Queen's Gaels on Sunday, Sept. 24 for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff. The Gaels will have played Toronto Metropolitan the previous afternoon, while Ottawa will be contesting their first match in two weeks.
The crosstown rivalry between the Gee-Gees and the Carleton Ravens will be renewed just once during the 2023 regular season. The match goes on Saturday, Oct. 7 at 1:00 p.m. at Matt Anthony Field.
A road trip to Nipissing and Laurentian concludes the regular season on Oct. 21-22, with playoffs getting underway Wednesday, Oct. 25 (teams earning a first-round bye begin the postseason on Saturday, Oct. 28).
Queen's is hosting the 2023 U SPORTS National Championship, which will run from Nov. 9-12.
