Bio

Michel Boucher memorably coached the Gee-Gees to the QUAA Championship in 1984-85 in his second season behind the bench for the Garnet and Grey. Originally from Quebec City, Boucher was an important builder for the program as he elevated the professionalism of the program.

His overall record with the Gee-Gees was 30-27-7 in the regular season and 13-12 in the postseason.

His head coaching tenure at uOttawa began in 1983-84 and in his first season the team improved from fifth in the conference to third place with a 9-10-5 record in the regular season before advancing in the playoffs to the conference final.

In 1984-85, Boucher led the team to a national championship semifinal appearance after winning the QUAA conference and the Eastern Canadian championship series.

The 1984-85 Gee-Gees captured the Quebec University Athletic Association championship by defeating the UQTR Patriotes in a best of three semifinal and then the Chicoutimi Inuk in a best of five conference final.

Ottawa posted a 10-8-2 regular season record to finish second in the conference before going on a playoff tear. The Gee-Gees would play a total of 11 playoff games, defeating UQTR 2-1 (2-3, 8-6, 7-2), Chicoutimi 3-1 (6-2, 6-3, and 4-3 in the victories), and UPEI 2-0 (2-1, 3-2) before advancing to the national semifinals, where they were narrowly defeated by York 2-0 (3-5, 5-6).

Boucher signed as General Manager with the Trois-Rivieres Draveurs of the QMJHL in 1986-87, a role he retained until 1990-91 when he moved to the scouting side of the front office.

After eight seasons as a head scout in the QMJHL, with Verdun, Saint-Jean, Laval, and Victoriaville, he has worked as an amateur scout for over twenty seasons with four different NHL teams, starting in 2000-2001 with the Los Angeles Kings. He was a member of the Stanley Cup championship-winning teams with Las Vegas in 2023 and Tampa Bay in 2020 and 2021.

Boucher was also a member of Team Canada's scouting staff for the 1994 Olympic Games (silver medal) and IIHF World Championship (gold medal).
