Bio

The first head coach of the uOttawa women’s volleyball team, Sawula stayed on as an assistant until 1981. His coaching allowed the Gee-Gees to bring in top quality players to train thanks to his outstanding reputation as Technical Director at Volleyball Canada which only grew following his time at uOttawa. A member of Volleyball Canada’s Hall of Fame, Sawula was the Canadian women’s national team coach from 1982-88 as well as 2000-05. He is an internationally certified coaching instructor and has also coached the national teams of Switzerland, Australia, Sweden, Costa Rica, and the United Kingdom, appearing in six world championships and one Olympic Games over the course of his career.
