THE PANDA GAME

The Panda Game is a long-running tradition in the city of Ottawa which has ignited school spirit since 1955. The 2024 edition of the Panda Game marked the 55th game in the storied series, with uOttawa holding an all-time record of 38-17. 

The 2019 game drew 24,600 fans to TD Place - a modern-day record for U SPORTS regular season football. Over 1,000 Gee-Gees fans also packed the Aberdeen Pavillion for the Pre-Panda Party. 

With uOttawa’s Homecoming weekend now lining up with the Panda Game, the celebrations are only getting better.

 

PEDRO THE PANDA

The Panda Game gets its name from a mythical but very real stuffed panda bear named Pedro. He was offered up as a prize to the winners of the 1955 grudge match between the cross-town rivals, and from there a star was born. The current trophy given out to the game's winner was created in 2013 by local artist Dale Dunning and is made out of brushed aluminum, replacing the bronze bear which was used from 1979 to 1998. The original stuffed version has survived, is in safe keeping after a lifetime of hard living, and makes occaisional appearances at Gee-Gees alumni events.
