After a convincing win, the women’s team kept the Alerts Cup right where it belongs: at uOttawa. The men’s team is getting ready to fight for the Colonel By Classic title and we want to see you there! Grab your garnet and grey and get ready to cheer on the Gee-Gees.
The inaugural Colonel By Classic took place in 2016, and over 3,000 fans attended the 2017 edition at TD Place with the uOttawa men's team taking home the Colonel By Classic Banner. The Gee-Gees are currently holding the Alerts Cup, which is presented to the winners of the women's hockey rivalry game.
The event is named after Colonel By Drive - the picturesque and historic road which runs along the Rideau Canal through central Ottawa and connects the two institutions with uOttawa at its northern end in the downtown core, and Carleton at the southern locks.
The Alerts Cup celebrates the history of women’s hockey in the nation’s capital – a history that is often overlooked but is actually rich and proud. The present-day Gee-Gees and Carleton Ravens pay tribute to that history by naming their women's hockey rivalry game after a championship-winning team of pioneering players in the city: the Ottawa Alerts.
