NEWS: OUA announces football schedule, Gee-Gees open on the road
The Gee-Gees football program will again call TD Place home for the 2022 season, but they'll open their quest for the Yates Cup by visiting the furthest possible opponent from Ottawa.
The OUA announced the 2022 football schedule on Thursday, Apr. 7. After an abbreviated 2021 season saw teams play just six regular season games, all within their divisions, 2022 will resemble a traditional OUA campaign.
Ottawa is slated to play eight regular season games over nine weeks, five of which will be against opponents in the conference's west division.
The Gee-Gees get things rolling on Saturday, Aug. 27 when they visit the Windsor Lancers. The Ottawa-Windsor voyage is the longest in the OUA, and will be a change for the Gee-Gees, as their longest road trip in 2021 was to Toronto.
Ottawa's home opener is the following week against the Queen's Gaels. The Sept. 3 confrontation kicks off at 7:00 p.m. at TD Place.
TD Place will play host to the Gee-Gees for the second straight season. The 24,000-seat venue operated by the Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group Group (OSEG) is also home to the Ottawa REDBLACKS of the Canadian Football League and the Atlético Ottawa soccer club of the Canadian Premier League.
The Gee-Gees went 3-1 at TD Place last season, including a triumphant victory in the annual Panda Game over the Carleton Ravens. This season's edition of the Panda Game is set for Saturday, Oct. 1. Kickoff is slated for 12:00 p.m., as the Gee-Gees look to extend their three-year winning streak.
The regular season concludes on Oct. 22 at home against the defending Yates Cup champion Western Mustangs. The playoffs commence the weekend of Oct. 29, culminating in the Yates Cup on Saturday, Nov. 12.
The 57th Vanier Cup will be played Saturday, Nov. 26. A host has yet to be named by U SPORTS.
