WEEKEND RECAP: Gee-Gees power to wins over Ontario Tech
The Gee-Gees men's basketball team logged two wins over the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks in Oshawa on the weekend.
On Friday, Ottawa powered to a 100-59 win which featured the Gee-Gees hitting on 11 of 24 three-pointers on the night. The Gee-Gees were dominant on the glass, outrebounding the Ridgebacks 43-26, while scoring 44 points in the paint.
Guillaume Pépin (17 pts. / 4 reb.) led five Gee-Gees in double-figures on the night. Redshirt first-year guard Cole Newton had a career night with 16 points on 7 for 10 shooting, while adding four rebounds in only 18 minutes of play.
Quincy Louis-Jeune (13 pts.), Gage Sabean (12 pts. / 5 reb.), and a 12-point and 10-rebound double-double performance to round out the win.
On Saturday, the Gee-Gees earned a 94-50 win on the back of 41 points off of turnovers. In all, the Gee-Gees shot 53.4 per cent from the field in the win.
Maxime Boursiquot (15 pts. / 6 reb. / 4 stl.) and Pépin (15 pts. / 5 reb. / 3 ast.) led the way for the Gee-Gees. Newton added 14 points, Louis-Jeune had 13 points, and Josh Inkumsah finished with 11 points, while Borys Minger turned in an outstanding seven steals on the night.
Up next, the Gee-Gees will get a week to rest following a undefeated start to the season both in preseason and regular season action. They will travel to take on the Varsity Blues in Toronto to close the semester on Nov. 26 and 27.
