RECAP: 3-0 weekend for Gee-Gees in PEI at Mickey Place Tournament
The Gee-Gees faired very well over the weekend, going 3-0 with wins over Cape Breton, UPEI, and Waterloo.
For their first and only preseason tournament, the Gee-Gees women's basketball team travelled to Prince Edward Island to take part in UPEI's Mickey Place Tournament from Oct. 4-6.

In the first game, the Gee-Gees stifled Cape Breton defensively in a 65-47 win. Riding big performances from Angela Ribarich (11 points, 10 rebounds), Alana Renon (10 points, six rebounds), and Maia Timmons (10 points, five steals) the Gee-Gees overwhelmed the Capers on both ends of the floor.
On Saturday against UPEI, the Gee-Gees battled the tournament hosts, but ultimately were able to secure at 71-65 win. Led by 14 points from Tyra Blizzard, along with outstanding performances from their forwards, the Gee-Gees scored 36 points in the paint. With 13 points from Anne Carr and 10 points each from Katherine Follis and Angela Ribarich, the Ottawa bigs sprung their team to the win. Follis also added 11 rebounds in a fantastic all-around performance.
The Gee-Gees closed the tournament with a 68-53 win against a fellow OUA representative Waterloo. Ribarich and Blizzard once again led the way for the Gee-Gees, scoring 15 and 13 points respectively. Overall, nine players found the score sheet in the win, including a balanced 11-point, four-rebound, three-assist, three-steal performance from Maia Timmons.
Up next, the Gee-Gees will travel to Montreal this week for a three-game swing against each team in the city. First taking on Concordia on Thursday, UQAM on Friday, and finally McGill on Saturday, the Gee-Gees will close out their preseason schedule with the trio of games against RSEQ squads.
