The Gee-Gees women's hockey team extended their win streak to six games over the weekend, with a 3-1 victory over the Concordia Stingers in Montreal on Sunday afternoon.
The victory matched a six-game undefeated streak back in the 2000-01 season, when the team earned five wins and a tie.
FEBRUARY 9 at CONCORDIA
In their second meeting in as many weeks, the Concordia Stingers once again opened the scoring — this time with a power play goal five minutes into the contest.
The Gee-Gees immediately pressured with a counter-attack. With traffic in-front of the net blinding the goaltender, Sophie Gareau fired a shot that found the top shelf, tying the game a minute later.
Concordia pressured hard in the opening moments of the second period, but goaltender Aurélie Dubuc was sharp in goal, knocking aside all chances.
Ottawa broke through late in the second period, with a point shot by Christine Deaudelin finding the back of the net.
The Gee-Gees hit the ice with renewed energy in the third period, as they controlled momentum and the pace of play.
Another shot from the point, this time from captain Mélina Roy, once again hit twine, giving the Gee-Gees the two-goal lead with 13 minutes to go on the clock.
The top ranked Stingers generated some scoring chances, but the Garnet and Grey rearguards shut down all opportunities to secure the sixth straight win.
