RECAP: Preparations for OUA Championships begin after Bayfront meet
The Gee-Gees cross country team competed at the last event before the OUA Championships this weekend, travelling to Hamilton for the McMaster Bayfront Open.
The Gee-Gees men place seventh in the team standings which featured eleven OUA teams. The Gee-Gees were in tight contention with both Laurier and Laurentian, with just five points separating the three teams finishing from sixth and eighth place. André Alie-Lamarche had the top finish for the Garnet and Grey, crossing with a time of 26:16 over the eight kilometre course to place 25th overall. Adrian Fournier, Stephen Robinson, and Nicolas Abanto Enns provided the key next finishes for the team score, placing in 46th, 54th, and 55th, respectively.
For the Gee-Gees women, Kylee Fowler recorded a did not finish which meant no team score for the remaining four team members. Skye Pellerin was the top finisher with a time of 33:28.7 for 48thposition in heat one, with Tiarra Ward in at 34:37.4 for 59th, Elana Tyman 64th at 35:43.7, and Kylie Crawford 67th at 36:21.0.
There was also a second heat run for both the men's and women's events and the Gee-Gees had a total of 16 representatives at the meet. Full results are available online here.
The OUA Championships are set for Saturday, November 6 in London, Ont. 2021 will mark the Gee-Gees team return to the OUA Championship event for the first time since 2015. From 2016-19 the Gee-Gees used the RSEQ Championships as their U SPORTS qualifying event, but were not official members of the RSEQ conference in cross country.
