Tennis
The University of Ottawa tennis team is a recently established varsity club, eagerly aiming to promote and enhance tennis in the Ottawa and Gatineau area. With a thriving and passionate tennis community, we are committed to supporting students in their journey to discover and embrace the game of tennis.
We greatly value the rich diversity within our team, as the tennis community attracts individuals from a wide range of cultural and personal backgrounds. This fosters a lively and inclusive environment that enhances the experience for all. Moreover, we celebrate the bilingual nature of our school, ensuring that anyone who speaks French is warmly welcomed within our club.
Team Structure
- The Division 1 team consists of a Men’s and a Women’s team (13 men and 11 women). Student-athletes are presented with the exceptional opportunity to engage in tennis at a highly competitive level. We travel across Ontario, representing the Gee-Gees’ name, to play all the other six universities in the OUA league. Our season starts in early September and finishes in early October with the OUA championship. Our team is driven by unwavering motivation to achieve greatness. The top 8 men and women of this division are those who travel and compete, with the rest serving as reserves all fighting for spots on the active roster.
- The Division 2/3 is our second and third division for recreational players looking to improve their game and have fun on the courts. They were established to make tennis accessible for university students who want to try the sport out, and is open to all levels, from beginners to 4.0 NTRP (Men and Women). Division 2 players are often those who were at the top of their regional or local competition groups, they are coached by Division 1 players in hopes of gaining a spot on the Division 1 roster. Division 3 is typically composed of beginner or intermediate players; the University of Ottawa wants to spread the sport across the campus and facilitate a low barrier for entry organised sport similar to that of the intramurals.
All players are required to pay a membership fee after being selected for one of the divisions. The membership fee covers competition travelling fees (for Division 1), court fees and apparel.
Our club is efficiently managed by our dedicated executive team. Comprised of current student-athletes, they play a vital role in strengthening our team, overseeing the season, establishing a competitive calendar, and providing coaching assistance. Their expertise and commitment ensure the smooth functioning and success of our organization.

During the off-season, we hold practices 2 times a week at Sportheque in Gatineau. The men’s and women’s team play together to grow as a team together and raise each other up.
