Photographer and Videographer - Varsity Athletics

Job Description:

The University of Ottawa Varsity Athletics is seeking highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to support the Gee-Gees official videographer and photographers with content creation for the Gee-Gees teams.

The Gee-Gees videographer and photographer will collaborate with the social media assistant to produce required content for the social media calendar. This position will have creative input on video and photo content. This is an exciting opportunity for students to work in an energetic, team-based sport environment at the University of Ottawa.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Capture and create content for social media calendar
  • Take photos of our team activities
  • Create videos to promote the Gee-Gees teams
  • Attend team practices
  • Collaborate with the social media assistant

 Qualifications:

  • Must be a registered University of Ottawa student
  • Must be eligible for the work-study program
  • Prior photography and videography experience are required
  • Sports videography and/or photography experience an asset
  • Must own your own camera and editing software
  • Social media experience an asset

Graphic designer

Job Description:

The University of Ottawa Varsity Athletics is seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic individual who will provide graphic design support to the Sports Information Department for the Gee-Gees teams' social media accounts.

The Gee-Gees Graphic Designer will collaborate with the social media assistant to produce required content for the social media calendar. This position will have creative input on the graphics required to adequately promote the Gee-Gees. This is an exciting opportunity for students to work in an energetic, team-based sport environment at the University of Ottawa.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Create content for the social media calendars
  • Design the required graphics
  • Execute the vision of the Sports Information team
  • Ensuring branding guidelines are respected
  • Collaborate with the social media assistant and the Sports Information team

 Qualifications:

  • Must be a registered University of Ottawa student
  • Must be eligible for the work-study program
  • Graphic design experience is a must
  • Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, other programs are an asset

Broadcaster – Play-by-Play

Job Description:

The University of Ottawa Varsity Athletics is seeking highly motivated and enthusiastic individuals to be the voice of the Gee-Gees on the broadcasts of all Gee-Gees home Football, Soccer, Rugby, Hockey, Volleyball and Basketball games.

As a member of the Gee-Gees Varsity Broadcast Team, you will be responsible for play-by-play on all our home games. Working with camera operators and a webcast director, the on-air talent will produce a professional, engaging broadcast for U SPORTS fans around the world. Please note that most events take place on the weekends. The successful candidates will be required to commit to 2-5 hours per event, arriving a minimum of 30 minutes prior to game.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare games content in advance.
  • Follow the pronunciation guide for names of players and coaches.
  • Understand the rules and language of the sport.

Qualifications:

  • Ongoing awareness and responsiveness
  • Outgoing and positive personality and team spirit
  • Excellent knowledge of volleyball
  • Speech Clarity in English
  • Experience with on-air talent an asset

Game Day DJ

Job Description:

The University of Ottawa Varsity Athletics is seeking highly motivated and enthusiastic individuals who will be responsible for the in-game music for of Gee-Gees home Football, Soccer, Rugby, Hockey, Volleyball and Basketball games.

As part of the Varsity Events Team, the DJ is a key member of the fan experience during our home games. This role will control all music played during the events and adapt the content to the different groups presents. This is an exciting opportunity for students to work in an energetic, team-based sport environment at the University of Ottawa. Please note that most events take place on the weekends, and as such applicants must be available to work most weekends.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Music for the duration of the event (In-game, warm-up, stoppage)
  • Create a variety of playlists ahead of events
  • Support the delivery of service to the different groups (Alumni, Students, community)
  • Execute music requirement for protocols
  • Work closely with the announcer for timing

 Qualifications:

  • Ability to work 15 hours per week, predominantly evenings and weekends
  • Ability to exercise initiative, and good judgment
  • Experience as a DJ an asset
  • Knowledge of Basketball and/or Volleyball an asset
  • Passion for music and entertainment

Webcast Director

Job Description:

The University of Ottawa Varsity Athletics is seeking highly motivated and enthusiastic individuals who will be responsible for producing the webcasts of Gee-Gees home Football, Soccer, Rugby, Hockey, Volleyball and Basketball games.

The Webcast Director is responsible for producing a quality webcast with instant replays, multiple cameras, graphics, and in-game segments. This role will harmonize these elements into a smooth broadcast by being proficient with our webcasting equipment and operating it live during games. Please note that most events take place on the weekends, and as such applicants must be available to work most weekends.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Produce a professional webcast for U SPORTS fans around the world
  • Coordinate with the on-air talent and video staff
  • Update scripts and graphic packages based on storyline
  • Collaborate with the Sport information Team

 Qualifications:

  • Experience with Wirecast and other broadcast systems is a key asset
  • Comfortable with computer programs
  • Knowledge of sports
  • Willingness to learn

Game Day Statistician

Department: Interuniversity Sports

Job Description:

The University of Ottawa Varsity Athletics is seeking highly motivated and enthusiastic individuals who will be responsible for the game-day statistics of our Gee-Gees home Football, Soccer, Rugby, Hockey, Volleyball and Basketball games.

In this role, the game-day statistician will be responsible for the recording and reporting of game stats and/or game clock at the scorer’s table. This position works as a team with other statisticians and the game-day staff. Please note that most events take place on the weekends, and as such applicants must be available to work most weekends.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring that game sheets are correctly filled out and signed by coaches and officials before and after the game
  • Filling out game sheets during the game
  • Updating both online and table stats reporting
  • Operation of clock and score board
  • Liaise with sport officials

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to work independently within a team environment
  • Successful at delivering under time sensitive deadlines, time management and organizational skills
  • Prior knowledge of hockey, volleyball, football, soccer and/or basketball
  • Prior knowledge and/or experience in scorekeeping and/or sports stats is an asset (i.e. stats programs, live game stats, score clock operation)
  • Bilingualism is an asset

 


Game Day Announcer

Job Description:

The University of Ottawa Varsity Athletics is seeking highly motivated and enthusiastic individuals who will be responsible for the announcing Gee-Gees home Football, Soccer, Rugby, Hockey, Volleyball and Basketball games in addition to some special Varsity Athletics events.

As a member of the Gee-Gees Varsity Events Staff, you will be responsible for the announcement of information over the in-house PA systems at the scorer’s table: introduction of players, coaches, and officials names; game-related announcements; and sponsorship promotion announcement. . Please note that most events take place on the weekends. The successful candidates will be required to commit to 2-5 hours per event, arriving a minimum of 30 minutes prior to game.

Responsibilities:

  • Announce programs, players’ names, and player substitutions, as well as game-related announcements (such as fouls, goals, penalties, touchdowns, etc.).
  • Learn to pronounce the names of players, coaches, and officials.
  • Understand the rules and language of the sport.
  • Understand emergency protocol to instruct and calm crowds in event of an emergency
  • Review script and communicate announcements at requested times
  • Work with the game-day minor officials and statisticians, and the DJ to enhance the game-day experience of the fans.

Qualifications:

Varsity Event Staff

Job Description:

The University of Ottawa Varisty athletics is seeking high-energy, organized individuals who will be responsible for the operations of all Gee-Gees home Football, Soccer, Rugby, Hockey, Volleyball and Basketball varsity events in addition to special Varsity Athletics events.

The Event Staff team coordinates logistical support for teams and fans whilst providing a safe, enjoyable, and efficiently operated venue for all Gee-Gees varsity home events. In addition, event staff execute multiple facets of the fan experience plan for the different fan groups. This is an exciting opportunity for students to work in an energetic, team-based sport environment at the University of Ottawa. Please note that the majority of events take place on the weekends, and as such applicants must be available to work most weekends.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Game day operations
  • Facility and event set-up/tear-down
  • Event access control
  • General game support
  • Support the delivery of service to the different groups (alumni, students, community)

Social Media Assistant

Job Description: 

University of Ottawa Varsity Athletics is seeking highly motivated individual who will be responsible for the development of a content strategy for the different social media accounts and platforms. This position will lead the execution of the social media content calendars on a strict schedule.

Responsibilities:

  • Execute the content calendars
  • Write captions for social media posts
  • Monitor team social media accounts
  • Respond to messages on team social media accounts
  • Coordinate a team of content creators
  • Collaborate with the Sports Information department

Qualifications:

Mascot

Job Description: 

The University of Ottawa Varsity Athletics is seeking highly motivated individuals to act as mascots at Gee-Gees home Football, Soccer, Rugby, Hockey, Volleyball and Basketball games in addition to special Varsity Athletics events.

The Mascot will be responsible for entertaining the crowd at the events, while working hand-in-hand with the game-day team. The Gee-Gees Mascot engages with the spectators at varsity events and creates an exciting fan experience. This is an amazing opportunity for students to work in an energetic, team-based sport environment at the University of Ottawa. Please note that the Gee-Gees Mascot will mostly be working weekends and evenings at varsity games.

Responsibilities include: 

  • Provide entertainment and interact with fans
  • Distribute promotional items designed to increase school spirit and attendance at games and events
  • Create a feeling of school spirit within the community
  • Represent the University of Ottawa in a positive way

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated independence, strong interpersonal skills and teamwork

  • Experience in dance, theatre or tumbling is an asset
