Founded in 2004, the University of Ottawa ringette program has provided hundreds of student-athletes with the opportunity to continue playing the sport they love while pursuing post-secondary education.
The team plays games locally and competes in 5-7 tournaments per year. These include the Dave Bennett Cup at the Ringette Ontario AA Provincials (to be the top University team in Ontario) and the University Challenge Cup between Christmas and the New Year (to be the top University team in Canada). Each year the team trains with the intention of bringing home the most gold medals possible.
The Gee-gees ringette team usually has 2-3 on-ice practices per week and 1 dryland practice per week. Games and practices occur outside/around the normal class schedule. Players are expected to show commitment, punctuality, and a highly competitive mindset. The team is made up of a playing roster as well as a practice roster. Players on the practice roster are occasionally invited to play in games and tournaments.
Student-athletes participating in the Gee-Gees ringette program can expect to find an immediate community of friends who share a passion for the sport and the thrill of competition. Athletes on the team find a much-needed balance to their academic routine through high-quality ringette competitions and a regular exercise program. The captains of the team strive to create a fun, safe and healthy environment where players can grow both on and off-ice.
Through the support of the University of Ottawa and fundraising by the team, the cost of participating in the program is kept affordable.
The team will be competing in the following tournaments during the 2024-25 season:
- Oshawa – October 25 to 27, 2024
- Gatineau – November 29 to December 1, 2024
