Badminton

The Gee-Gees badminton team consists of 12 males and females selected through a process of tryouts in September. The Gee-Gees badminton team provides the badminton community at the University of Ottawa with an opportunity to train and compete at a high level. On campus practices will consist of a mixture of guided fitness and on court training at a frequency of approximately four hours per week (two sessions per week).

Throughout the season, team members are encouraged to participate in local competitive tournaments, then are funded to compete at the OUA Championships and the University National Championships. In the past, our team has had strong results at the OUA Championships, including a silver medal performance in 2014 and fourth-place finishes in 2020 and 2022. We also have multiple athletes who have won or medalled at the University National Championships in recent years.

The team is capable and aiming for a podium finish at this year’s OUA Championships.

Tryouts for the team will take place on Sunday September 8th 3:30-5:00 pm at Montpetit Gymnasium #3, Monday September 9th 7:30-9:00 am at Montpetit Gymnasium #1 and Thursday September 12th 10:00-11:30 am at Montpetit Gymnasium #3. If you wish to tryout, please register by filling out the following form: https://forms.office.com/r/ytWRekNmzu. The fee to take part in the tryouts is $30 (paid via cash or etransfer in advance to mturg077@uottawa.ca) and will be subtracted from your team fee if you qualify for the team. Shuttles will be supplied; please bring your own racket, non-marking shoe, and athletic clothing.
