Equestrian
Gee-Gees Equestrian, founded in 2003, remains the most well established collegiate riding program in Canada. The team philosophy emphasizes horsemanship, opportunity, community and teamwork.
Gee-Gees Equestrian is an active member of the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association's (IHSA) Zone 2 Region 2 and the Ontario Collegiate Equestrian Association's (OCEA) East Zone.
The team trains at Wesley Clover Parks with coaches Mark Struthers, Lauren Hunkin and Angela Erickson. Riders of any level may try out for the equestrian team. To win intercollegiate horse shows, athletes must earn points at all riding levels, from Walk/Trot to Open. Because points earned in the introductory divisions mean as much as points won in the highest level of competition, they are invested in finding riders who come from a wide range of experience levels.
Collegiate riding competitions are based on “catch riding,” with riders drawing a horse provided by the host school. Riders accumulate points in their respective classes for their individual standing and for the team. The Gee-Gees Equestrian Team has had riders advance and compete with success at Regionals, Zones, and National Championships
