RECAP: Ottawa takes care of business on the road at York
The Gee-Gees football team earned a 27-4 win over the York Lions in Toronto on Saturday, bringing their record to 1-1 on the young OUA season.
Ottawa kicker Zachary Copeland had a busy day, hitting four of five field goal attempts on the day to help propel the Gee-Gees to victory.
It was a strong performance by the Ottawa defence that clamped down on the new-look Lions, holding them to just a field goal and a rouge all afternoon.
Offensively, running back Charles Asselin logged another outstanding game and found the end zone twice for both of Ottawa's touchdowns.
Quarterback Ben Maracle made his return from injury to play his first full game under centre since November 2022. Despite a slower start in the first half, the passing game picked up quickly in the second half. With Asselin reliably running the ball, Maracle was able to pick apart the Lions to sustain point-scoring drives.
Defensive back Nicolas Dion had the lone takeaway on the afternoon, securing his first career interception in the second half. The ensuing celebration was a bright spot on the afternoon as the Gee-Gees surrounded Dion on the field and then the sidelines to celebrate a memorable moment.
As of Saturday evening, stats are currently unavailable for the game, totals will be tabulated and updated once completed.
What They're Saying:
"I've worked all of training camp on my reads and playing fast. It felt amazing, with the guys everyone supports each other, so it was really nice." – Nicolas Dion on his first-career interception.
