RECAP: Gee-Gees power to big home win over Toronto, tee up playoff push
The Gee-Gees football team earned a lopsided 49-7 win over Toronto on Saturday at Gee-Gees Field.
The win, combined with other results across the OUA has confirmed that that Ottawa (4-4) will secure the sixth seed in the OUA playoffs and pay a visit to third-seeded Guelph (6-2) next Saturday.
In all, the Gee-Gees racked up 546 yards of total offence, including an outstanding day passing the football. Josh Janssen finished 17-19 for 289 yards and a touchdown, while Ben Maracle was 6-8 for 81 yards and a touchdown. Running the goal line package under centre, Matt Mahler broke through for three rushing touchdowns in his final regular season game.
Also on the ground, Charles Asselin had 104 yards on 18 attempts, while Souleymane Camara added 40 yards on 10 touches and a touchdown.
Robin Collioud had a massive day through the air, finishing with 124 yards. Regis Kodua sprung a 78-yard catch that set Ottawa up for a touchdown. Romeo Lussier and Scott Fulton were on the receiving end of the Gee-Gees' passing touchdowns.
On the defensive side of the ball, Ottawa limited Toronto to only 222 yards, while getting a sack and an interception. Riley Hildebrandt led the way on the defensive side of the ball, with 4.5 total tackles, Braeden Cruji had 3.5 total tackles, a sack, and a pass breakup.
