Armstrong wins Player of the Year for second time, Ben Davis is Rookie of the Year
The Gee-Gees men's rugby team had two players selected for RSEQ Major Awards along with five First Team All-Star selections for the 2024 season
Fifth-year fly half Jamie Armstrong was named the conference Player of the Year and Ben Davis was selected as the Rookie of the Year. Joining Armstrong on the All-Star team are Ali Awada (lock), Connor Billo (hooker), Even Roy (prop), and Glenn Roy (centre).
The Gee-Gees posted a 5-1 regular season record and finished second in the league regular season standings, one year after the program's first conference championship.
Jamie Armstrong was selected as match MVP three times during regular season play, emphasizing his impact on the game beyond the scoresheet this season. The fifth-year veteran from Stittsville, Ont., recorded three tries for a total of 15 points in regular season play.
The Gee-Gees captain recorded one try against Montreal, Concordia, and Bishop's, and wore number 10 for 4 of his five match appearances in regular season play. Armstrong stands second in Gee-Gees career scoring history with a career total of 110 points entering the RSEQ Final.
Armstrong was previously selected as the 2021 RSEQ Player of the Year and is a four-time RSEQ All-Star. He earned his undergraduate degree in Economics in 2024 and spent time at Rugby Canada's Pacific Pride Academy and the Seattle Seawolves of Major League Rugby before returning to uOttawa for his fifth year of eligibility.
Ben Davis was a reliable starting number five for the Gee-Gees in his rookie campaign, appearing in five regular season matches in that role. The Human Kinetics student from Keene, Ont., recorded his first try as a Gee-Gees against Carleton and was instrumental in the Gee-Gees success this season.
Ali Awada, a fourth-year Criminology student from Ottawa, was named an All-Star for the first time in his career. Fifth-year Ottawa product and History student Connor Billo returns to the All-Star squad for the second time after earning second team honours in 2021.Billo tied for the team lead in tries scored with five.
Glenn Roy is also a two-time All-Star, reprising his 2023 First Team selection. The centre led RSEQ in points scored with 60, recording four tries, 17 converts, and two penalties. Roy is a Mathematics and Economics student from Ottawa in his fourth year of eligibility and holds the team record for most career points scored with 182 after adding ten points to his total in the RSEQ semifinal victory.
Evan Roy was named to the First All-Star team for the third straight season and tied for the Gee-Gees lead in tries scored with five. The Mechanical Engineering student from Ottawa established a new program record for career tries scored, entering the RSEQ Final with a total of 17 over his four seasons played.
