Bio

Andrew "Bones" Armstrong joined the Gee-Gees men's rugby staff in 2020, after an outstanding tenure working as an assistant coach with the women's rugby program from 2013 to 2019. During this time, the program won five consecutive U SPORTS medals from 2015-2019, including a national title in 2017, as well as six-consecutive RSEQ Championships.

Armstrong’s coaching background started during his playing days when he was a player-coach on a number of teams. He coached the backs at Queen’s University during their 1990 championship year and was an integral part of coaching the Ottawa Irish men's teams of the 1990s to multiple Provincial League and 7s titles. In 1999 he led the St Pius X-men to an OFSAA bronze medal, one of the highest ever finishes by an Ottawa high school.

Armstrong left the game for a number of years to marry and start his own family of rugby players. This eventually brought him back to coaching mini, junior and high school players. Thankfully, U SPORTS rugby came calling and the partnership has been incredible. With his role on the men's rugby team, Armstrong gets the opportunity to coach his son, Jamie, throughout his university career.

As a player, Armstrong had many great successes. He was a part of the Provincial Men's team that returned Ontario to National Champions after a long B.C. stranglehold. This led to representing the Canadian National team at both the 7 and 15 levels.
