Schedule Release: Nordic Skiing building up for exciting 2024-25 season
The University of Ottawa Nordic skiing team have been in action, preparing for the 2024-25 season. Outside of the OUA season, many athletes are competing at high level events with the hope of qualifying to represent Canada at internation competition.
From Nov. 6-9, Anna Heffernan-Wilker, Shilo Rousseau, Will Ng, Sam Aslan, and Isla Hupe were in Canmore, AB to race in the FISU University Games selection trials in Biathlon. Rousseau qualified for FISU as the first ranked female athlete and her performance earned her starting positions to represent Canada at the opening biathlon World Cup events of the season in Finland and Austria.
At the 2023 FISU World University Games in Lake Placid, Rousseau won three medals.
In a few weeks, Emma Archibald and Tanya Quesnel will have their turn in Canmore as they compete in the FIS Para Snow Sport Continental Cup races.
Archibald is on the national team and will be heading to Europe for the World Cup in January.
In December, the Gee-Gees will be competing in the Eastern Canada Cup at Nakkertok Nordic in Catley from the 13-15. Five athletes, Heffernan-Wilker, Maude Molgat, Kate Mason, Tyler Allan, and Skyler Samm will be vying for spots to represent Canada at the FISU World University Games in Cross Country.
In the new year, the team has a list of exciting events on the horizon, starting with Coupe Skinouk on Jan. 25-26. The team will compete in the Eastern Canadian Championships the following weekend.
Next, the team will participate in Gatineau Loppet events On Feb. 14-16 before heading north for the OUA Championships on Feb. 21-23.
Following the OUA season, the team will head to Canmore for a week in March to compete in the 2025 Nordix Canada Ski Nationals and Canadian Colleges and Universities Championships.
