Coach Stu McKenzie Honoured at Canadian University Rowing Championship
The Gee-Gees rowing team placed sixth in the women's team standings at the Canadian University Rowing Championships held at the Welland Flatwater Centre, November 6-7.
Women's team coach Stu McKenzie was recognized for his outstanding work in bringing the Gee-Gees to a new level of success. He was named a co-winner of the Women's Program Coach of the Year, sharing the award with Jane Gumley of the University of Victoria, whose program placed second.
The Gee-Gees women's team coach since 2005, McKenzie was named the OUA Women's Coach of the Year for the second time in his career at the conference Championships last week.
Although the Garnet and Grey was held off the national podium, the team had three events with representatives in the A Final.
The women's open 8+ saw uOttawa finish fourth, the best placing of the day for the team. Laura Guy, Kerin Hudson, Vienna Scholten, Gab Zitikyte, Rhiannon Crichton, Fiona McGougall, Laura Vink, and Alyssa Pastic provided the horsepower with Mia Lyons coxing.
The women's open 2- duo of Guy and Hudson finished sixth, as did the women's lightweight 4+ boat of Kennedy Burrows, Jasmine Foreman, Pastic, and Karolyn McGover, coxed by Mary-Beth Foley.
The Gee-Gees had representatives in five other events, including two men's events featuring Luther Edson and Adam McDermott.
