NEWS: Gee-Gees swim releases 2023-24 schedule, to host home meet in November
Fresh off one of their most successful seasons in program history, the Gee-Gees swim team have their sights set on a similar showing this coming season.
The team released their 2023-24 schedule in mid-June. It will feature the usual RSEQ Cup circuit, a handful of exhibition meets, and those who qualify won't have to go far for the U SPORTS National Championship.
The RSEQ schedule sees the team travel for meets at UQTR (Oct. 6) and Sherbrooke (Oct. 21), before hosting the third Cup meet of the season at the Montpetit Hall Aquatic Centre in Ottawa. The home meet will take place on Saturday, Nov. 11 with the first race getting going at 5:15 p.m. It will be the first conference meet held at the pool since renovations took place over the spring and summer of 2023.
Montreal hosts the final Cup meet of the season before the team shifts focus to the RSEQ Provincial Championship. Laval is slated to host the provincial meet, which will run from Feb. 16-18. The Gee-Gees men's and women's teams finished second overall at the 2023 championship.
The U SPORTS National Championship is being hosted by McGill University at the Pointe-Claire Aquatic Center on the West Island of Montreal from Mar. 7-9. The Aquatic Centre is located a half hour west of the McGill campus and features a 50m pool. The Memorial Pool on McGill's campus is 25m, which explains the venue choice.
Sprinkled within the conference schedule is a selection of exhibition meets, including the Neptune meet held at the Université de Montréal in early December.
For athletes who qualify, the season wraps up with the Canadian Swimming Trials that are usually swam in early April. With 2024 being an Olympic year, the trials will be held in Montreal in May.
