RECAP: Gee-Gees earn second at RSEQ Championship, Lemesle and Kurji bring home six medals each
The Gee-Gees swim teams each finished in second place and earned overall at the RSEQ Championship held in Quebec City over the weekend.
This is the third consecutive year the Gee-Gees have swept second place at the conference championship and the team brought home 34 total medals.
Hugo Lemesle matched his six-medal performance from the 2023 RSEQ championship, again tying the program record by earning three gold medal finishes and three silver medal finishes.
Lemesle earned golds in three individual races, winning the 20m, 50m, and 100m breaststroke. On day one of competition, Lemesle earned relay silvers in the 4x50m freestyle and 4x100m medley. Team records were set in both races. Another relay silver was earned in the 4x50m medley.
First year Gee-Gee, Alym Kurji also claimed six medals, earning two golds, three silvers, and a bronze medal. Kurji's gold medal placings came in the 50m and 100m backstroke.
Evan Aguiar-Winter and Colin Shearer also earned gold for the Gee-Gees men.
The Gee-Gees women were led by Isabelle Melanson who captured a pair of silver medals and a bronze. Swimming 1:02.24 in the 100m backstroke earned Melanson's individual silver. Abigail McKinley reeled in a pair of individual medals, swimming 2:17.59 in the 200m backstroke for silver and 1:02.96 in the 100m backstroke for bronze.
Isabelle Langridge came away with three bronze medals and was named the RSEQ Rookie of the Year.
With the conference championship wrapped up, the Gee-Gees will shift focused to the U SPORTS National Championship that is set to run from March 7-9 and is hosted by McGill.
