RECAP: Gee-Gees win four events in strong showing at Cornell’s Kane Invitational
On Saturday, the Gee-Gees track and field team showed well at Cornell University's Robert J. Kane Invitational in Ithaca, NY.
As has been true all season, Ottawa's women's and men's relay teams have been strong suits as the 4 x 400m teams both raced to wins at Barton Hall.
On the women's side, Sia Mahajan, Brooklyn McCormick, Doyin Ogunremi, and Kennedy Banton-Lindsay posted a 4:04.44, winning the event in dominant fashion finishing ahead of second-place Binghamton by 13 seconds.
It was more of the same on the men's side, with Fabrice Nonez, Thomas Kukla-Colby, Lucas Zanetti, and David Moulongou taking the win posting a time of 3:26.17, good enough for 11th in the nation.
Moulongou (1:22.85) and Zanetti (1:23.34) both podiumed in the 600m, with Moulongou taking home first and Zanetti third. On the women's side, Brooklyn McCormick took home second with a personal-best time of 1:38.34.
In women's sprints, Ogunremi secured second place in the 300m with 40.60, the event she currently ranks 12th in the nation in.
On the field side, Ottawa was also successful, with Thomas Sénéchal-Becker matching his personal best of 2.06m in the high jump and taking home a win. Sénéchal-Becker remains the second-ranked high jumper in both U SPORTS and the OUA.
In high jump on the women's side, Elizabeth Moreland and Ella Lalonde finished tied for third with 1.48m. The Gee-Gees also logged a second place finish in long jump with Vienna Courteau (5.41) and in triple jump with Jackson Colquhoun (13.57).
Up next, the Gee-Gees will be on the road to Boston to participate in the BU David Hemery Valentine Invitational at Boston University on Feb. 10 and 11.
