The Gee-Gees women's basketball took on the Toronto Varsity Blues to close the first semester of play in Toronto on the weekend. Earning two lopsided victories, the Gee-Gees improved to 6-0 on the OUA season at the holiday break.
On Friday, the Gee-Gees defeated the Varsity Blues by a 81-51 final score, capitalizing on outshooting Toronto by a 55.6 per cent to 29.2 per cent margin in the win.
Brigitte Lefebvre-Okankwu continued her stellar play, logging a 19-point and eight-rebound showing to pace the Gee-Gees. Also scoring in double-figures was Anne Carr with 14 points, Nadine Katumbayi (10 pts. / 4 ast. / 3 stl.), Alana Renon (10 pts. / 3 reb.), and Emily Payne (10 pts. / 3 reb.)
On Saturday, Ottawa closed off the weekend with a 78-43 win. Lefebvre-Okankwu once again logged a 19-point and eight-rebound outing, while Katumbayi added 16 points on the afternoon.
Overall, the Gee-Gees took advantage of Toronto's turnovers to the tune of 25 points on Saturday. On Friday, Ottawa dominated inside the paint, scoring 36 points on high-percentage looks.
The Gee-Gees will now take a pause for the exam and holiday break. They will gear back up for a home matchup with the Carleton Ravens in the Bytown Battle on Jan. 8 at Montpetit Hall.
